In the 8 or so years I've been traversing the interwebz, I've been fortunate enough to have chanced upon some amazing people I would have otherwise never got the chance to engage with. That probably comes as no surprise to some people reading. My own brother re-united with a girl from his primary school days online and many years later, they're engaged and have a son, so it shouldn't really be a surprise to me either.
On occasion, about twice a year, I'll come across someone completely spectacular. Maybe they live interstate. Maybe overseas. Chance are at first I find them funny, but I generally only return if they truly engage my mind.
I dont consider myself a writer, but I certainly appreciate the work of those who do. Like music, if you dig deep enough, random golden nuggets exist away from the mainstream. I dont consider myself much of a reader either, but I can be consumed for hours by the opinions, rants and random musings of others. Tales of success, struggle, triumph over adversity and side-splitting wit all key ingredients.
There are times when the right words, from the right source can cause a complete paradigm shift in your own perceptions : Something many people pay thousands of dollars for in courses and uni, but something I happily obtain for free through natural curiousity.
I've believed for a long time that the best way to learn about something is to speak with someone who does it. Ask as example : If being a millionaire is your wish, you surround yourself with other millionaires. Or if you have questions about landscaping, ask your footy mate on a forum somewhere.
Which brings me to Ashlee Adams – Two time Penthouse model, adult entertainer, blogger, gamer, businesswoman and one of the most down to earth “hotties” I've ever had the pleasure of meeting online.
“Hold the phone !!!” ... I hear you yell … “A Penthouse Model ???”
That's right folks ! - She could easily be the teen girl next door you used to pick on, who's found herself thrust into fame somewhat by accident. A girl equally as comfortable, if not more, at home with a pizza and her xBox Kinect, as what she is in front of crowds of men naked on the weekends.
I've been watching Ashlee from the sidelines interstate for about 6 months after a mutual friend came running to me on Facebook with one of her pics saying “Phwoar CK – Check out this girl !”. - (Hello Chappo the Crusader if you're reading !)
10 years ago she could have easily wound up on a wall somewhere in my house, but these days I've evolved past those capers. I'm married, got kids and generally leave all the commentary on the “hottest women” to the other boys addicted to lads mags who have free time for TV.
Nevertheless, Ashlee's various social media outlets are an infectious pink-plague. I find myself, cheering her on and wishing her well. Nothing quite blossoms like a girl with all the regular insecurities any teen experiences, who emerges confident after realising a transition in life direction was due.
I dont know the full Ashlee story – I just see what I see. What I do know, is that (like most young girls) she suffered some body image issues. She has some of the most extraordinary and intriguing tatts. Yet she still maintained enough confidence in the face of self-doubts and naysayers. In 2008, she tried out for an Aussie babes modelling competition for fun, which she duly WON.
Her star is rising fast and the journey from freckly-teen next door, to Two-time Australian Penthouse cover-girl is a captivating vicarious experience. Despite the lure of celebrity, fame and bad-spending, she maintains grounded feet and isn't shy about venting her everyday frustrations and joys.
From her job with “Candy Kittens” with her gal-pal Hunter at Risque Entertainemnt, to her recent breast surgery, relationship status updates (sorry boys – she often speaks glowingly of her man Kyle), cyber-stalkers, gaming nights, photo-shoots and any other topic to spring to mind, it's hard to get your head around the fact she is an everyday suburban Adelaide girl.
Recently I caught up online with the girl herself, just one day prior to her release of her March cover for Penthouse Australia. Buzzing with excitement, and ever the gracious hostess, she gave me some time for a chat, so I could peck at her brain to see what makes her tick.

I think one of my nerdier obsessions is Harry Potter - I go to all the midnight movie premieres in costume. I also collect a lot of Buffy memorabilia, I have replica pendants and stuff like that from the show. And of course, there's the gaming. I play a LOT of video games and occasionally write video game reviews for Australian Penthouse.
Probably the funniest misconception that I've faced since going blonde is from people saying I'm "fake" now, which makes me laugh because I'm a natural blonde and being brunette was much more fake. I had to put a black dye over my hair every three weeks to keep my blonde roots showing through! For some reason, a lot of people seem to think that anyone who has blonde hair is faking it and anyone who has dark hair is natural. Silly.
I've always been a very driven person and success is important to me, so when I really dedicate myself to something I want to do it the best I possibly can. As soon as I started modeling I knew I wanted to be on covers and I mapped out a plan to get there.

- Let's start with the vital stats ? Age, height, etc for the folks at home ?
- For the girls reading – What are your guilty pleasures ? Shoes ? Lingerie ? Champagne ?
- For the boys reading – Do you like … Sports ? Cars ? Adventuring ? Footy ?
- Can we establish some of your more nerdy credentials ?
I think one of my nerdier obsessions is Harry Potter - I go to all the midnight movie premieres in costume. I also collect a lot of Buffy memorabilia, I have replica pendants and stuff like that from the show. And of course, there's the gaming. I play a LOT of video games and occasionally write video game reviews for Australian Penthouse.
- Tattoes, modelling and adult-entertainment all imply you're a bit of a wild child – I'm willing to bet you jigged school, smoked behind Mum's back and two-timed the boys – Were you always a rebellious type, or are you more selective about being a non-conformist ?
- People aren't shy on giving out opinions on you I've noticed - What's the most common misconceptions you faced both 'before' and 'after' your transition into a model/adult-entertainer ?
Probably the funniest misconception that I've faced since going blonde is from people saying I'm "fake" now, which makes me laugh because I'm a natural blonde and being brunette was much more fake. I had to put a black dye over my hair every three weeks to keep my blonde roots showing through! For some reason, a lot of people seem to think that anyone who has blonde hair is faking it and anyone who has dark hair is natural. Silly.
- Your progression from freckly teen into Penthouse Cover girl didn't happen overnight – Good or bad, who/what were some of the influences along the way ? How did they attribute to your change ?
I've always been a very driven person and success is important to me, so when I really dedicate myself to something I want to do it the best I possibly can. As soon as I started modeling I knew I wanted to be on covers and I mapped out a plan to get there.
- Was it a case of “I'll try this and see how it goes” or did you have a lightbulb moment where you thought “I can viably DO this !” ???
- What have been some of the highlights of your jobs in the last few years ?
[ Ed Note : This inlcudes hanging out with Bon Jovi on their last tour ]
- If you could talk to the Ashlee Adams from 5 years ago, what advice would you give her on self-confidence and self-acceptance ?
- Finally - What's on the horizon for you in 2011 ? Travel ? Any challenges you've set yourself ???
